Matt Caldecutt's Placeholding Tumblr Blog

Yes, it still exists and yes, I know that it has been woefully neglected.  :-)

In other news, last week, I was in Whitehall, NY…the birthplace of the US Navy. Yes, the greatest navy on earth was founded on a lake.

Wow. I’ve driven through Whitehall dozens of times and never knew it was the birthplace of the Navy.
The only thing I thought it was known for was being the town where Trey Anastasio was arrested on drug charges back in 2006.

It was actually the temporary home of the U.S. Naval Academy during the Civil War.

So, has anyone had a POSITIVE experience finding an apartment in NYC?

ohhleary:

I’d like to hear that there is a chance, however small, that this won’t be the most painful and stressful next six weeks of my life.

Actually, I did.  My girlfriend and I pored over the listings in The New York Times’ Real Estate app and found a couple of apartments being offered by the buildings’ owners with no fees attached except for first month’s rent and security.  We live there now.

Welp, decision made.  Looks like we FINALLY know where Lebron is headed.

Carrot has its own NBA franchise now?

I’ll admit I never knew the source of the Union Jack, and I studied European History in college. It was only watching the World Cup this year that I learned of England’s flag of St. George’s Cross.

That’s not actually the “Ireland” flag.  That’s the personal emblem of the Fitzgerald family which was used to represent Ireland.  Also, note that the flag omits St. David’s Cross, one of the symbols of Wales.

I love the Normals. Sometimes I wish I was one.

I prefer to call them “civilians.”
