So, has anyone had a POSITIVE experience finding an apartment in NYC?

Actually, I did.  My girlfriend and I pored over the listings in The New York Times’ Real Estate app and found a couple of apartments being offered by the buildings’ owners with no fees attached except for first month’s rent and security.  We live there now.

  1. waysiveavoidedstudyingforfinals said: Yes! When my boyfriend and I moved in together, we rented the first and only place we looked at, which was listed by owner on Craigslist (no broker fee). Our rent is $400 less than we were expecting to pay. We just renewed for another year.

  5. haveyoumetmissjones said: I did. I looked at two apartments in one night and one was the one I ended up picking. Had everything I wanted, the lease signing was a piece of cake. No broker fee…and they even gave me keys before my move in date. So there is hope.

  8. brianvan said: Hah. unlikely. Carolyn and I are forcing ourselves to attend a viewing today that we know is bullshit just to stay on the broker’s good side. The kitchen sink is smaller than our large bowls.
